Competitions

The designs for the Holocaust Memorial in Atlantic City, NJ, the Sheffield Festival Centre in England, the World Trade Center Memorial in New York City, and the “Temple of Laughter” competitions all strive to find symbolic and poetic possibilities in architectural design.

Jennifer entered the “Temple of Laughter” ideas competition a few years after graduation from architecture school. The interpretation of what a temple of laughter meant, the program, and site were left completely to the discretion of the competitor. Jennifer chose to use it as a way to explore the emotional qualities of architecture, specifically Joy. The design is an architectural fantasy of sorts on a site overlooking the ocean on the Island of Capri, Italy. The competition entry was chosen for an exhibit in Los Angeles, California in 1994.
